my lil'bro was freakishly attached to his "paci." eventually we threw them all away & told him the garbage man took them.

Gradual method:
I sucked my thumb til I was 7. My dad bribed me with a trip to the toy store if I didn't suck my thumb for 14 consecutive days. We put a calendar on the fridge, and I marked off each day. At the end of the 14 days, he took JUST ME to the store and I got to pick out whatever toy I wanted (under $15 - that was a LOT to me back then). I don't think I totally stopped in those 14 days, but at least it started the weaning process. :-p

The kicker is that he quit in December and this is total backsliding! I paid good money for him to quit...it goes with the blink though. As soon as he gets the blink he sucks the thumb.
